Papertrey Paper Dolls Challenge #28

Hope you all had an amazing Thanksgiving!  It's my (Michelle-abzzymom) turn to host a challenge.

What I love about the holidays are all the wonderful colors of the season. The beautiful reds, greens, golds and silvers are so pleasing to the eye.  As much as I appreciate the traditional colors of Christmas, I also like to incorporate non-traditional colors when creating my cards or decorating my house. I like the unexpected element of using purples, pinks, and teals. My brain starts to tingle when I see an unusual color amongst the usual holiday colors.

My challenge to you is to create a holiday card or project using non-traditional colors.  That doesn't mean you can't use red, green, gold or silver.  You just have to incorporate a surprise color in your creation.

For my card, I used Simply Chartreuse, Fine Linen, and Plum Pudding. The focal point is from Dawn's cute On Ice stamp set.

I can't wait to see what you make. I would really love to see someone make a Christmas card that has a bit of Orange Zest in it.  That's a color I'm still having a hard time using for my holiday cards. Have fun!

(Edited to add:  This will be our last challenge for the year so we hope you play along. Our challenges will resume in January.  In the meantime, you can still visit our personal blogs for more amazing projects and inspiration. We wish you all a wonderful holiday and a happy new year!)

Papertrey Paper Dolls Challenge #27

Hello and Happy Holidays!
It's Amy here and I am very happy to be hosting this week's challenge!!
Is everyone starting to become busy during this holiday season?  I know it's only going to
get busier as Thanksgiving and Christmas get closer.
So when it came to my challenge theme this week, I thought it would be fun
to "revisit" a couple of sets that make it easy to add just the right touch!
What sets you may ask?  I know I haven't used these sets as I had hoped, so I thought why
not focus on these for my challenge!

"The Button Bits Challenge"
My challenge is to create a card using these sets......any colors, any theme, anything goes.
Here are these sets in case you have forgotten!

Blooming Button Bits

I chose to use Baby Button Bits along with Jen's great sketch challenge from last time!
(I was getting behind and this was my way to catch up)

Now, I want you all to go and break out those Button Bits sets and link up your cards!
Happy crafting!

I kept my sample super, super simple as well!

PPD Challenge #25: A Non-Traditional Fall

Hello everyone! Happy October!

I am so happy to be hosting the Challenge this week. Since I was away, my mind is stuck in PTI-land as it existed months ago. I have too many sets that have not been inked up and a few releases to catch up on. BUT I have been lurking and this card by Maile Belles is one that sticks out in my mind as one of my favorites recently:

Why do I love this card so much? I think it's because the card uses non-traditional colors (no orange!) for a Fall themed card. Since this is the look I am shooting for with my Halloween cards this year, I thought it would be fun to challenge everyone here to create a Halloween or Fall-themed card not using any orange. None. Nada. Zip. It can be any size or have any layout that you like.

I am really excited to see what you all come up with! Here is one that I came up with:

Lastly, for a little bit of fun I will hint that I might be doing a small Dolls-only giveaway on my blog this weekend. Check in there for all the details on how I made this card too. Thanks for visiting!

PPD Challenge #24: Banners Out of the Box

Hi everyone!  It is Jen here and I have the pleasure of hosting this week's challenge!

Everywhere I look lately it seems that I see banners somewhere and I have to say that I totally LOVE them!  I love the different shapes and sizes and the different colors! So, that is what inspired this challenge!

My challenge to you is to create a card using PTI products that you have and include an "out of the box" banner somewhere on your project!  What is an "out of the box" banner?  It is a banner that you uniquely create, thinking outside the box, with something that is not originally designed to be a banner!  So, take a look at your stamps in a new way!  What can you pull out to use as a banner?

I used the Beautiful Blossoms set and coordinating die to create this banner.  I die cut the shape, stamped it and then cut it out.  If you would like more information on this process, I have a tutorial on my blog showing the process.

I hope you choose to play along (everyone is welcome to play)!  You'll have 3 weeks to enter your card on the link below.  I know that this might be a bit of a challenge, but I can't wait to see what all of your creative minds come up with!  And, if you want to copy a banner that you have seen before, feel free to do so, it doesn't have to be your unique idea!

I've also included links to two other cards using this idea to help you get started!

Challenge #21 - Autumn Wishes

Hi Everyone!

It's C here in the latest installment of the Papertrey Paper Dolls Challenge. This is a pretty great day for me. My lucky number is 21 and this is the 21st challenge for the "Dolls" and it is also my 40th birthday! Still not sure how I feel about this milestone but I can tell you I had a blast making my card for this week's challenge. I kept it simple for everyone...I went with a theme for this challenge...FALL. Create something beautiful and warm with the fall season as your inspiration. Whether it is the crisp air, the rustling leaves or the excitement of Halloween and all its sweet treats around the corner, I know you will find something special to capture your feelings about this time of year...

This card is squared at 5-1/2" and uses some fun October Afternoon paper, my fun new stamps (Jar Fall Fillers and Leaf Prints) plus some fantastic dies (Jar Label, Leaf, Spellbinders).  Here is a close up to see the details of the background stamping with Versamark for the leaves and the cute little acorns and colors of the jar contents (yah copics!).

I will post the details on my blog (Tradefish Designs) if you want more details. Remember, you have 3 weeks to post your project. Have a fantastic day everyone!

Paper Dolls Challenge #19

It's me, Michelle S. (abzzymom)!  It's my turn to host a challenge!  My goal this week is to spread the love to some neglected stamps and supplies.

I am totally addicted to Papertrey Ink! I know this because I continue to buy new stamp sets and products every month even though I have a ton of stamps that have never been inked and a bunch of supplies that have not yet been used on a project.

So, here's my challenge:  Make a card or project using 1) a stamp that has never been inked and 2) a product that is brand new and never been used.

On my card, I used a lot of things that I've never used before. I bought the Fly Away set when it was first released, but hadn't used it until now. It's an adorable set and at just $5 it's a bargain! This is also the first time I used Background Basics: Stars. I love how it matches the star that's on the back of the plane.
I have the whole Spring Rain collection, but have yet to use them. For this project, I used a button and the saddle-stitched ribbon for the first time.  Can you believe this is also the first time I used the cloud die?

I'm sure you have a stamp that needs some love and inking as well as embellishments that are just screaming for you to use them. So, look through your stash of goodies and get creative!

This challenge will be open for 3 weeks. I can't wait to see what you make!

Paper Dolls Challenge #18

Hi, it’s Anika here with another challenge for you.

I want you to find inspiration from a food container or wrapper. You can use the colors, layout or another design element from the packaging.

I used the colors from a Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup as my inspiration. I also thought the ric rac looked like the edge of a peanut butter cup.

Hope you can find something in your pantry, refrigerator or freezer that will inspire you!

Thanks for playing along! ~Anika

Papertrey Paper Dolls Challenge #17

Hello everyone!

It's my turn, Lisa V.to host another PTPD challenge.

Dawn McVey's blog was the first blog that I visited when I discovered PTI. I loved her ability to give fresh color a shabby twist or leave fresh color combinations as they are and they just turn out wonderfully.

Dawn has provided us with this beautiful card from last months PTI release. This is packed with Dawn's style.

Here is what I came up with using Dawn's card as inspiration.

The challenge details are pretty simple.  1.  Use Dawn's card as inspiration. 2. If you have some supplies from the July release try to incorporate them in your design.  3.  Have fun!

DAWN, THANK YOU FOR PROVIDING PTPD WITH BEAUTIFUL INSPIRATION!

Challenge #16

I can't believe this is our 16th challenge on our blog! Can you?  This is Lee Anne, and it's my second time to host a challenge.  I'm going to borrow a sketch from the Go-To Sketches challenge for this one.  Here's the sketch:
It's a sketch that Betsy Veldman designed for the special issue.  I thought it was a challenge because of the circle.  I hardly ever create shaped cards, so this put me out of my comfort zone.  I'm sure I could have used this as the focal point on a standard card (as can YOU), but I stayed true to the challenge.  Here's my card:

and the inside:

Play along with the sketch and post your creation below!

Papertrey Ink Supplies:
Stamps: Up, Up and Away
Paper: Aqua Mist, Stampers Select, Summer Sunrise, 2008 Bitty Dot Basics
Ink: Summer Sunrise, Smokey Gray
Tools: Rick Rack Die, Cloud dies
Other:  brads, aquacolors, sakura stardust pen, chipboard letter, gemstones

Papertrey Paper Dolls Challenge #14

Hello everyone! This is C with a new challenge for the Papertrey Paper Dolls and followers of this blog. I decided to challenge everyone to do 2 things: (1) use a color that you would not typically use and (2) use a technique on your card that you have not used in a while. So, for me, the color orange is not something I typically use outside of a halloween  card. The second part of the challenge was a technique. I decided to go back to basics and do some embossing. Here is what I ended up with for the group...and I have to say that I happy I used the orange!

Visit my blog for more detailed photos and a supply list. Happy scrapping!

Please join us in submitting your card for the challenge below using Mr. Linky. You will have 3 weeks to submit your creation. We look forward to seeing all the wonderful cards that are created!

Papertrey Paper Dolls Challenge #13

"...cuz we are livin' in a material world and I am a material girl!"

Okay, not really...
Hi! It's Leish, and it's my turn to host this week's challenge. I have to be completely transparent here and tell you that I'm super duper nervous! =) Anyway, on with the challenge!

Your mission, should you choose to accept it...is to rummage through your closets for some kind of MATERIAL to serve as your inspiration. It can be your clothing closet, linen closet, crafting closet, etc. No running out to the fabric store, snatching up some new material, and THROWING it in your closet so you can use it! LOL.

I decided to use my wedding dress for inspiration.

Here's the card I made:
I hope you play along!

Papertrey Paper Dolls Challenge # 12

Good Morning!  It's me Lisa  (mimiggallery)  and it is my turn to host the PTPD challenge this week.

I decided to take a tour of my house to find something that would be a good idea for this weeks challenge.  Taking a tour sounds impressive.  Ten good strides and your done.  Ha-Ha.  I  ended my " tour"  when some work from one of my favorite artists caught my eye.  The work was from my oldest daughter.  I have two other children so guess what my next challenges will be!!!

Carly created this piece in her 7th grade art class.  It is a little ceramic dish.  I really love her choice of colors and the simplicity of the flower.  I incorporated both in my card, but you can use this as a color challenge or add flowers if you wish.

Here is the card that I created for the challenge.

Now it is your turn. Add your card to the link below so we can all see what you come up with.  Can't wait to see!
The link is open for three weeks and there are other challenges open now as well.  Scroll down for some more fun.

Have fun!

Paper Dolls Challenge #11: Create a non-standard sized card

Hi everyone!

It’s Anika here with your challenge today. I need to give a big ‘Thank You’ to Suzanne for posting this for me! So here it is…

I always love long narrow cards, square cards, or shaped cards. So my challenge for you is to create a card that is NOT 5.5” x 4.25”. Any other size or shape will do!

I went with a tall narrow card. It’s 3” x 8”. The flowers are fabric, and the rest is Papertrey. (Of course!)

I’d love to see what you come up with, so link it up below!

Challenge #10: A sketch by Amy

Hello.....It's Amy and I'm so happy to be hosting this week's Papertrey Paper Dolls challenge!
This week I wanted to do a sketch using scallops and after
seeing this card by Dawn McVey, I knew that was it!!
I have used a similar layout before here but this is just a bit different.
(Thanks to Jen for helping me with this sketch!)

I love the look of scallops and especially Papertrey's new scallop dies!
So if you have those, use them but if not just substitute something else for them!
Here is my card using the above sketch!

Please come play along....we have our challenges up for 3 weeks!!
We all would LOVE to see what you create during our challenges!

Challenge #9: What's Old is New!

Happy Thursday!!! I don't know about you, but I absolutely loved Papertrey's June release! From the Friendship Jars to All About You to Flutterby Friend, I just loved it! I am super excited about inking up several new sets. I'm sure that when my order arrives I'll have a hard time deciding what to ink up first!

Speaking of what to ink up first...that's just what our challenge is going to be this week! I want you to think back to one of the first PTI sets you ever inked up (for some I know it's not been too long, and that's OK!) Using one of those first sets, make something new and link it up below for us all to ooh and ahh over!

Little Lady was in my very first PTI order, so she got some loving for this challenge.

I hope you give this challenge a go...I'd love to see what set brought you to share in this lovely little addiction to Papertrey Ink. You've got plenty of time...three whole weeks! The past two challenges are still open as well...give them a look and play along!

Papertrey Paper Dolls Challenge #8

Hi, everyone! It's Lee Anne, and it's my turn to host this week's challenge. I really like the sketch challenges that we've been having, but for some reason I'm drawn to a color challenge this week.

A few weeks ago my family celebrated my son's 5th birthday and my nephew's 4th birthday with one big party.  It was a lot of fun, and I should have been more focused on the party, but instead I was focused on this shirt that my sister had on.  I kept seeing PTI colors the whole time and couldn't wait to get home to put something together.

So that is my challenge to you.  Use this color palette to create your project. (If you don't have these exact colors, then try to get close and have some fun!)

Here's the card I created using Take 3: Summer and Inside & Out: Thank You:

And here's the inside:

I can't wait to see what you come up with!

Papertrey Ink Supplies:
Stamps: Take 3: Summer, Inside & Out: Thank You
Paper: Dark Chocolate, Ripe Avocado and Stampers Select Cardstocks
Ink: Dark Chocolate, Hawaiian Shores, Ripe Avocado
Ribbon: Ripe Avocado

Other Supplies:
Brads
Spellbinders tags die

Paper Dolls - Challenge #6

Hi! It's Deena (honugurl16), and this week, it's my turn to host the challenge. Can I be honest? Today was the last day of school and it was only yesterday that I realized it was MY TURN! Yikes. I wanted to do a sketch, but I wanted some sort of twist...so I decided to choose a sketch that had a little something extra.

So here's the challenge. It's from the Go-To Sketches magazine. It's on page 90. Half the cards are an odd size, but I wanted to keep mine standard. The challenge is to make a card with a pocket on the front for a gift card. I often give gift cards, but I want to give them in a creative way. I think this fits the bill.

Have fun with this one. I'm really loving the new Beautiful Blooms paper. My newest favorite cardstock is Smokey Shadow, and I'm loving the smokey shadow flowers on the paper.

Supplies (All supplies PTI unless otherwise noted):
Stamps: Mega Mixed Messages
Ink: Versacolor Black
Paper: Pure Poppy, Smokey Shadow, Beautiful Blooms
Other: HS felt, Pure Poppy Vintage Buttons, Nesties Labels 1, rhinestones (brand unknown), circle punch

Paper Dolls-Challenge #5

Hi, everybody! It's Michelle (abzzymom).  It's my turn to issue this week's Paper Dolls Challenge and I've decided to make it about color.  To choose the colors, I laid out my inks, closed my eyes, and picked three colors. Your challenge is to create a card or project using these colors.

(A big THANK YOU to Katie for helping me with my post by making the color challenge box above.)

Here's the card I came up with.  I used the Out On a Limb set, which is one of my go-to sets.

The card base looked plain so I used the Giga Guidelines impression plate for the background to give it a little texture.

Here's a close-up of my "butterfly" bow with the button.

This year, I promised myself I would also complete the inside of any card I make.

I can't wait to see what you create using these colors. If you don't have these exact colors, use something that's close. It's all about having fun!  Bonus points for finishing the inside of your cards too!

Hope you can play along with the Dolls!  Remember to add your specific post to the link tool below.

Thanks for stopping by!

All supplies used are from Papertrey Ink unless otherwise specified.
Stamps:  Out on a Limb, Mega Mixed Messages
Inks:  Hawaiian Shores, Berry Sorbet, Rich Cocoa (Memento)
Paper:  Hawaiian Shores, Berry Sorbet, Stampers Select White, 2008 Bitty Dot Basics, Chocolate Chip (SU)
Embellishments:  Hawaiian Shores twill ribbon, Dark Chocolate button
Tools:  Giga Guidelines I impression plate, Traditional Scallop punch (Martha Stewart)
